After Orfield Design

Our client had a medical diagnosis that would eventually force them to become wheelchair bound. We had to design the home to be usable and friendly for the current upright clients, but also functional and accessible for them in wheelchairs.  We created smooth flooring transitions, grab bars, ramps and under-counter accessibility for 1st floor wheelchair living.

The goal was to integrate accessible design principles: adequate maneuvering spaces for wheelchairs as well as making sure all necessities would be in reach. We built a single story addition onto the back of the home for a large open kitchen layout, master bedroom suite with “roll-in” tile shower and large master closet.  The warm red birch custom cabinetry provides ample linen storage, and the cultured marble top softly corresponds with the ceramic tile on the floors and walls of the new roll-in personal shower.
