After Orfield Design

This newer home had large rooms, balconies, vaulted ceilings, and other attractions. The original master bathroom on the 2nd floor did not match the premier level of living that the rest of the home exuded. With only a small tub, no shower, and a single sink, this odd-shaped bathroom on the interior of the home was small and lacked any natural light. To accommodate the owner’s wish list for the new space, we removed the wall between the existing closet and bathroom and altered the walls entering the bedroom. The next important item was installing a large Marvin Integrity clad double-hung window in the bathroom. Now there is a beautiful view when sitting in the new 66” Freestanding Albert tub.

The new walk- in shower does not have any curb - and a single pane of floor to ceiling tempered glass lets natural light in, while keeping any water from splashing out when using the various showering apparatus’. This bathroom also has a private toilet compartment. Having to work around existing mechanical items spurred a few creative solutions. The sheetrock divider between his and her vanities houses HVAC ducts that supply the 3rd floor above. In addition, the new linen cabinet was designed to maintain the practical laundry chute drop to the 1st floor laundry room. Custom painted cabinetry with slab drawer and flat panel door fronts, matching mirrors, Hanstone Specchio white countertops, and various sizes and shades of porcelain & ceramic tile in the shower, on shower bench, bath floor & wall wainscot around the room, create textural interest in this clean, open, and modern space.

The client comments: “In a word, it went fantastically. There were two basic phases to the project. The first was designing the new bathroom and the second was the actual construction. Orfield excelled at both. Orfield made us a set of plans that were far better than any of the other we had solicited. There were several small design problems that he solved quite creatively leading to a very nice overall design. Throughout the construction phase Orfield and their subs paid close attention to details. Everyone was professional, prompt and most importantly, competent. Their attention to details in both the plans and construction has produced an excellent final product. The project was completed exactly on schedule and ended-up costing almost exactly what was bid.”
