After Orfield Design

Extensive architectural detailing was employed in this whole house remodel consisting of side vaulted family room and rear master bedroom additions, kitchen remodel, basement finish, layout reconfiguration, new bathrooms, and garage relocation. The materials, design, and finishes were selected and installed to match this homes original Arts and Crafts build.

In the original formal living room, the piano windows above the wood-burning brick fireplace were boarded over. In order to recapture this stately focal point of the home, Ron created a sketch for new back-lit stained glass windows. These were seamlessly joined with the new handcrafted oak fireplace surround, bookshelves and honed black slate inlaid with handmade accent tiles.

The original staircase walls that divided the formal dining room and kitchen were opened and Ron designed a custom handrail to be installed instead. This railing now gives light and an artistic element to an otherwise ignored stair space.
