After Orfield Design

Orfield designed and remodeled the basement which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This row of town-homes is the earliest example in Minneapolis of a workers’ community. These timber-framed and brick-clad nearly identical dwellings were built close together to increase return on the land by the owner. Special attention was paid by Orfield in designing the basement to keep within the strict guidelines of the NRHP and in keeping with the homes’ original designs. Oak hardwood floors were laid and recessed lights keep things bright. Details are what make this entertainment wall so spectacular – a panel in a column hides a water meter and gentle arches top the design.

Says the proud owner of this room: “My basement almost seems like its above ground now!”
