Ronald (Ron) Orfield is the Founder of Orfield Design & Construction, Inc. He grew up in the Lake Harriet Linden Hills community, working with his father on their various historical apartment buildings in St Paul. This hands-on education sparked Ron’s interest in architecture & design. Upon graduating from the University of Minnesota with a Degree in Architecture in 1969, Ron designed at architectural firms in England (UK) & United States for many years.
He loved the accomplishment of watching a project go from design to build, so it was a natural transition to marry the design aspect with the construction to create specifically what the client had in mind. At this point, Ron partnered with his brother Henry Orfield, also in construction, & together they incorporated Orfield Design & Construction in 1978. They started work in the residential remodeling industry on historical properties in St. Paul & Edina, then expanded to include the surrounding Twin Cities. Ron was referred for his courteous nature, creative & artistic designs, detailed finish & exquisite craftsmanship on projects.
Ron built a house in Edina in 1976, where he still resides with his current wife, & enjoys continually remodeling. His interests include car racing, motorcycles, ships, & local & international travel. He currently spends the majority of his time volunteering his vast architectural expertise in the construction of non-profit facilities.

Orfield did a complete remodel of my basement bathroom removing a sump pump and installing a new toilet, vanity and shower. I love the tiling on the floor and in the shower. It always costs more than you would expect but Orfield does quality work. This is the third job they have done for me. Previously I had a family room added to the basement with an egressed window and the staircase was opened up. It no longer feels like a basement. Also, they did a complete kitchen remodel with a wall bump-out. I will have them back to remodel my upstairs bathroom soon. I can always count on them to provide quality work which lasts.
A great company to work with. I love my new Kitchen. It is just as I envisioned it to be. They worked with me every step of the way, great attention to detail and excellent craftsmanship.
These clients have referred us to friends, and marked our customer satisfaction survey with OUTSTANDING on all areas: reliability, responsiveness, honesty, competence (knowledge), empathy, and design.
I was happy with the design process, taking my time to make sure my money was spent with the best choices for my taste. I was able to meet my wish list on my modest budget & am so very happy with the results!
Orfield was more organized and gave a quick response with plans. We are very pleased. Neil and Trent did stellar work and Amy is organized beyond belief and very detail-orientated. Thanks!
Excellent – I liked their plan and the work was done on time and handled very professionally.
Orfield Design and Construction did a marvelous job of turning our kitchen into something that was not only beautiful, but also very functional and caters to our needs beautifully. Everything is great– the cabinets, the skylight, the island, the breakfast nook with its lift-up storage benches.... it all works really well and maneuvering around the kitchen has been very easy. Our family lives in this kitchen.
Orfield was great to work with! Ron had great design ideas and listened to my needs. Laura coordinated all of the sub-contractors very well, answered questions and gave great suggestions. All of the sub-contractors were very polite, prompt and overall nice people. I was comfortable giving them access to my house. The built-ins are absolutely gorgeous and the craftsmanship is great. They addressed billing concerns and questions well and gave concessions when justified.
Thanks for promptly answering the multitude of questions we had on our kitchen project ! Thank you also for the special touches you added to our kitchen project & to Ron for his hard work. You both helped to shape the transformation & we love how our kitchen looks & it functions so much better!
We greatly appreciate the extras that you put into your work. We really like our deck – it is something that we’ve wanted for a long time. Thanks for the great design (all of your brainstorming paid off!) and to Neil for his fine craftsmanship. Amy, thanks for managing all of the details and fielding our questions as the project moved along…. Thanks to all of you for seeing our project through to completion.”
"Very positive experience. Very professional and responsive organization. At the first meeting, they arrived with a draftsman who was able to draw a sketch on the spot of the idea they proposed. Once the contract was signed, they were very diligent in scheduling the subcontractors, and worked with and around, our summer travel plans. Finished project turned out very nicely. Subs were all nice professional folks.”
Thanks again for all your hard work. We appreciate everything you did to make this project go smoothly, and we would not hesitate to work with you again in the future.
We had a great experience. I think Orfield was very clear and communicated very well.
The bathroom is beautiful and everything works well. All your workers were excellent, in my view… I am grateful that you are following through to completion. Most important, we are enjoying our new bathroom, and the water drains properly in the shower. Terrific!
Orfield came out and talked through a design with us. Ron came up with a great option that we had not even considered for a screened-in porch.. Laura did all the work on getting the variance we needed from the city. The work was completed on schedule. Orfield was very easy to work with, very professional. All the contractors were also good.
