Summary :

This 1962 rambler with generous square-footage & tuck-under garage was perfect for this family of 5 except for the undersized bedrooms and bathrooms. Great design is classified by how a remodel looks AND how efficient it makes the home. By building a main level addition on a stone-based post-footing foundation, the bedrooms and bathrooms became proportionate to the rest of the home, and the walkout basement remained inviting.

Instead of a small bedroom and cramped ½ bath with dark stained oak woodwork, a walkup closet and tiny general bath, a new master suite was produced. Recessed white storage cabinetry, and a walk-in closet, seamlessly laid new hardwood flooring, new 2-panel doors, all white woodwork, and room for sitting, desk, & exercise craft a secluded retreat.

In the master bathroom, neutral Travertine tiles with a conservative mosaic border create interest and balance the espresso vanities. His and her vanities/medicine chests, with Carrera marble countertops naturally lent use of marble shampoo shelves, shower curbs and ½-wall cap. An air-jet bathtub helps complete the spa-like experience.

The new general bathroom captured the old masters square-footage. A maple vanity with granite top & 2-sinks with large mirror lessen fights amongst the 3-boys. Durable slate tiles on the floor and alcove soaking tub/shower contains carefully placed glass mosaics maintaining masculinity while the unique granite-ledged glass window opening enhances the relationship of light between the tub & vanity areas.

This simple, functional plan ensures it will remain delightful long after the kids are off to college!
