This happened to be the sixth project completed for these clients over the span of decades and what makes this particular project special is that this original deck & structure was designed & built by our company in 1982, & has been enjoyed, still standing all these years later!
It was just time for this retired couple to move to low-maintenance products with a facelift.
On this deck, we were able to reuse existing structural members, with current code changes requiring additional framing & a new wrought iron handrail down the steps to the rear yard. New post sleeves & Redland Rose deck & fascia boards by Azek® cover the pressure treated cedar.
Aesthetic & functional updates done as part of this project included replacing the basement window under the deck with a new Hayfield® slider, replacing the concrete 3’x3’ landing between the house & deck, & refurbishing the black wrought iron railings.
The open sections above the wood rail are for retractable privacy shades as they are so close to the neighbors, with the exterior fabric in process (not shown at the time of this picture).
