This kitchen update shows how small design changes can have a maximum impact. Staying consistent with the 1950’s era in which the home was originally built, the update brought a fresh appeal to the present day lifestyle.
Thanks for promptly answering the multitude of questions we had on our kitchen project ! Thank you also for the special touches you added to our kitchen project & to Ron for his hard work. You both helped to shape the transformation & we love how our kitchen looks & it functions so much better!
The changes in this Kitchen included the following: removing the wallpaper, improving the lighting (Quoizel Ozark semi-flush), replacing the vinyl floor tiles and base with natural Oak wood flooring and wood trim, adding a full Sand tile back splash with randomly placed Chocolate Glass accents above the Formica 180FX® granite look-alike counters and installing metallic blinds instead of curtains.
The existing cabinetry was painted a soft white (BM Cotton Balls) to tie in the white appliances, in order to contrast from the dark trim and also brighten the petite room. Supplemental retro painted custom cabinetry and chrome hinges/hardware were fabricated to replicate the homes original cabinets and maximize storage around both the new and reused appliances. Changing from a standard box Refrigerator to a counter-depth, adding a new Micro-Hood OTR, and sneaking in a false cabinet drop off next to the stove that hides a tiny “mudroom” shoe cubby, all make this galley layout function much better!
