After Orfield Design

This kitchen had not been touched since the home was built in 1960 and although in original pristine condition, our clients decided it was time for an updated, prettier, more functional kitchen. The new kitchen was to reflect her favorite colors and their own personal wishes, balanced with our recommendations.

We pulled the following together to make a new cheerful and welcoming kitchen:
• Our clients personal items were incorporated into the new kitchen plan upon request and so the oak bookshelf/key-drop and oak trestle table/bench were modified. • They did not want a dishwasher but we suggested creating a space for this appliance for future resale. This sparked our idea of the butcher-block cutting-board top rolling cart! Mechanicals were run to this area for ease of future DW install, but for now the cabinet opening seamlessly hides the cart for additional storage and extends the prep space when pulled out. • Painted custom cabinetry is filled with details: decorative column appliqués at the corner sink, raised platform behind the sink, cove molding at the top of the upper cabinets and around the entire kitchen ceiling, curved base toe-kicks and curved valances showing the bead-board backs at the open cabinets, including upper cabinet doors at the cook-top which were built to fit her friends handmade leaded glass design. • New appliances. • Corian countertops. • Full subway tile backsplash in a brick pattern with basket weave pattern creating a focal point at just the stove, along with a custom blended glass tile border. • Natural oak hardwood flooring replaced the original vinyl tiles.

This kitchen now appeals to the general consumer - bright, fresh, and inviting – as well as the home-owner. She told us they receive constant compliments from neighbors, friends, and family and sometimes she just “stands in the kitchen admiring the work, and loving it!”
