One wouldn’t think that actually adding a wall of cabinetry & more appliances would make a kitchen feel much bigger, but that is exactly what happened here! This beautiful home in an up-scale neighborhood was given simple improvements that incorporated modern amenities with the original 1940’s home architectural details.

The original inset cabinetry at the sink & stove wall was untouched except to turn a formerly inaccessible fixed corner into a useful roll-out trash, & all the old “stuck” drawers became new soft-close. We added under-cabinet lighting & a new wood painted bead board backsplash, along with a custom wood-hood valance covering the new Vent A Hood per code, to the exterior over the range.

On the opposite wall there was a small pantry closet & alongside of it sat a lonely refrigerator. By removing the pantry closet we were able to design & build new painted cabinetry to match the homes original. This also accommodated a new KitchenAid single wall oven, new Whirlpool microwave with trim kit, & new counter depth KitchenAid refrigerator. This gave our clients double the storage & created balance in the kitchen. New recessed lighting was added in the ceiling for better general lighting. As exact profiles could not be found, new bright brass exposed hinges & handles were installed, new cove molding at the ceiling & all cabinets & new base shoe were also replaced throughout the room.

Personal touches were added by not only commissioning a local artist to create a wheat raised relief tile backsplash at the stove, but also by installing the owners antique pendant light over the sink, salvaged from her grandparents farmhouse. Our custom match to the original discontinued Corian countertops & unique edge detail goes unnoticed at the new cabinetry, but that’s exactly what we wanted!

This is one of many projects we’ve performed for this client & their extended family. Their Angie’s List report was that this “project was planned & designed very well. The project was on schedule & on target with budget”. They also emailed us: “We do love it - still can’t believe we didn’t add floor space” & tease each other that “Now the debate is who is at fault for waiting so long....” in deciding to move forward with the remodel project!
